With Afghanistan being the latest
entrant into SAARC, we have the
Aryan Band coming to the fore not
only reviving the ethnic Afghani
music of the past
but combining it too in a fusion with elements
of the modern genres of music. What is born thus, is a unique genre
of music that taps into the past bringing with it a rejuvenating
rhythm to the scars of lacerated Afghanistan.
Certain members of the band also teach
at the Kabul Music School. Fusing Congas and Latin percussions, the
clarinet, saxophone, and the violin along with ethnic Afghan instruments
like Daira, Rubab, Tambur, and others, we have a class of music hitherto
unheard of before.
